Republic of Jiu Jitsu

The first thing I want to say is you’re very welcome to the Republic of Jiu-Jitsu (ROJ). Ireland welcomed me into its arms from Brazil in 2008 and it’s here in Dublin that I was able to achieve my dream of opening a martial arts academy with a difference.

So, what’s the difference? Republic of Jiu-Jitsu isn’t just a place to train, it’s a community where we build one another up through martial arts training.

Jiu-Jitsu focuses on the principle that smaller, weaker people have the power to successfully defend themselves against bigger, stronger adversaries by using leverage and proper technique.

Learning how to use techniques that don’t rely on size or strength but rather skill and speed not only improves your physical condition, it boosts your concentration, provides a healthy way to release stress and builds your self-confidence.

So, no matter what age, shape or size you are, you are guaranteed to receive a warm welcome here from the Republic of Jiu-Jitsu community.

Head Coach Abnel Rodrigues - 3rd Degree Black Belt

My name is Abnel Rodrigues. I grew up in Bahia in Brazil and I am a third degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

In 2008, I made the big decision to move to Ireland to follow my dream of opening my own martial arts academy. Republic of Jiu-Jitsu is the realisation of that dream.

I began learning Jiu Jitsu over 24 years’ ago and have been training since then. I quickly realised how little I knew about the human body. I became hooked and my fascination with learning about the limits and capabilities of the human mind and body remains as strong today as it was 20 years ago. I also have over a decade of teaching experience for adults and kids.

I truly believe in the power of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu training to improve both physical and mental well-being.

Our door is open to anyone who has an interest in self-development. We are more than a community of BJJ and MMA fighters that have wide ranges of experience in the martial arts sphere. I can train people to compete but I also love working with people who want a fun, enjoyable way to train that develops the mind and the body.

If this sounds like you, come say hello, take a look at our class schedule or send us your details.

Kids and Teens Classes

Classes are designed for ages 5-10 and 11-15. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is an excellent sport for kids. BJJ might not be considered a team sport, but it has a team spirit. They will learn more than just athletic skills and the “gentle” art of Jiu-Jitsu. It helps instill strong values like discipline, respect, and leadership qualities.

Group sessions are designed to engage kids with fun exercises that build confidence and curiosity, which encourages and improves competitive spirit in students that they can use in the classroom and life.

We strongly believe in the power of BJJ beyond the sport.
